Data from 29 October 1998 will be lodged with EDC routinely on a daily basis, starting on 2 November. PRINCIPAL FEATURES NASA ID: 7849 Acronym: STRM Position (approx, CSR95L02) Latitude: -35.31615 degrees Longitude: 149.00988 degrees Ellipsoid Ht.: 804.8 metres Telescope: EOST in Typhoon Dome (sealed) Aperture 75 cm Focus Coude Mount Alt-Az T/R Common Coude path for transmit and receive Reference Point: All observations are reduced to 7849, which is the intersection of the axes of the telescope Laser: MHz microlaser with regenerative amplifier and two flashlamp amplifiers Energy 50 mJ Pulsewidth 35 ps Wavelength 532 nm Rep. Rate Normally 20 Hz, potential 100-1000 Hz Detector: Compensated SPAD Calibration: Real-Time from masked 2-inch cube on spider Verification: Four ground targets, giving self-determination of horizontal coordinates Aircraft Detect: Separate laser, collinear through main telescope Wavelength 1540 nm Pulsewidth 3 ns Precursor Fired 600 microsec before main laser Timebase: TrueTime GPS-Disciplined Oscillator Meteorology: Vaisala automatic, calibrated temperature, pressure and humidity sensors read per shot Collocated Equipment: TurboRogue GPS receiver, on North Calibration pier Ashtech Z-18 GPS/GLONASS receiver, on survey monument (for duration of IGEX´98 campaign) DORIS V.2 A207 beacon, located on roof Superconducting gravimeter (in basement of Mount Stromlo Observatory, about 1 km away) Survey Ties: Comprehensive survey by commercial firm was conducted in March 1998, connecting SLR, DORIS, GPS on North Pier, fundamental monument, ”Stromlo Trig” (well established), the four ground targets, and secondary points. Several GPS campaigns on North Pier and fundamental monument simultaneously (also with Orroral and Tidbinbilla). Comprehensive survey is to be repeated by AUSLIG in November 1998. A ”Translocation Project” was conducted from 1 July to 31 October 1998 in order to get a good SLR baseline between the two stations. Particular efforts were made to observe quasi-simultaneous passes of LAGEOS 1&2, STARLETTE, STELLA and WESTPAC. Geodetic GPS was operated continuously at both sites, augmented by the Z-18 at Stromlo. The local ties at Orroral are being re-observed at the moment. Those at Stromlo will be re-observed when the Orroral survey is completed. MOBLAS-5 at Yarragadee, Western Australia was re-observed by the same team with the same equipment in September 1998. In this period, a total of 1155 passes were acquired at Stromlo and 1981 at Orroral. Of these, there were 75 overlapping passes of LAGEOS 1, 66 of LAGEOS 2, 86 of STARLETTE, 70 of STELLA and 26 of WESTPAC. There were, of course, more than these of each target acquired at each station. The data from 9 July to 19 October has been analysed independently by three Analysis Centres. The results were deemed so good that the acceptance tests could be passed and Orroral could cease observing. They will be published in due course. The Stromlo data from 9 July to 28 October will be submitted to EDC during November.
