Subject: [SLR-Mail] No. 845: LRE Campaign From: Mike Pearlman > ******************************************************************************** SLR Electronic Mail 2001-11-30 09:17:00 UTC Message No. 845 ******************************************************************************** Author: Mike Pearlman Subject: LRE Campaign Dear Colleagues, The LRE tracking campaign will come to a close on November 30. Unfortunately we have not been successful in tracking this satellite with SLR. This may have been due in part to the difficulty in making accurate predictions for a satellite in a highly eccentric orbit. There may also have been some issues about accommodating the velocity aberration with the cube corner offsets. The closeout of this campaign does not preclude LRE tracking at some time in the future when we better understand and can rectify the processes at work. We urge the Prediction Centers to examine their prediction procedures to make sure that there is nothing in their computations that would prevent tracking of this type of orbit in the future. We must be in a position to support the needs of a broad user community and we must be ready to accept new challenges. We express our appreciation for the effort made by many of the stations for the visible observations and the ranging attempts. Best regards, Mike Pearlman Director ILRS Central Bureau Dr. Michael R.
