The REFLECTOR microsatellite is a passive reflective spatial reference test object consisting of separate prism retroreflectors placed in reference points (nodes). It will be used for retroreflection of laser radiation coming from a ground-based laser radar to analyze and investigate the return signal structure for determination of spatial (angular) resolution, testing, and identification of spacecraft which may be defined as space debris. The SLR will be used for Orbit Determination. This satellite was launched on Dec 10, 2001 as a piggy back to the METEOR-3M mission. Important orbit information for this satellite: Launch: Dec 10, 2001 @ 17:19 GMT Altitude: 1020 km Inclination: 99.64 deg Eccentricity: ~0.0 SIC #: 5556 COSPAR #: 0105604 NORAD #: 27004 Npt Bin Size: 30 secs Currently, NORAD has identified the 0105604 COSPAR number as a different satellite (MAROC-TUBSAT), but we have been informed that these elements actually represent the REFLECTOR satellite. The MCC will generate and distribute the acquisition data. Current data is included following this message. ILRS approval of this satellite is still pending, but tracking may begin immediately.
