Subject: [SLR-Mail] No. 1019: ICESat Update From: Mike Pearlman > ******************************************************************************** SLR Electronic Mail 2002-12-23 08:44:00 UTC Message No. 1019 ******************************************************************************** Author: Mike Pearlman Subject: ICESat Update Subject: ICESat Update Subject: ICESat Update Dear ILRS Colleagues: We have been informed by Bob Schutz at CSR that the planned December 19 launch of ICESat has been delayed. A problem with the launch vehicle, not ICESat, was discovered during routine launch preparation. With the approaching holidays and other launch-site responsibilities at Vandenberg, it will be several days before the contractor can determine a new launch schedule, but launch will not take place before January 11. An update will be issued when a new launch date has been established. Due to the nature of the ICESat/GLAS instrumentation, the scope of the SLR tracking support to be requested from the ILRS is still being determined. As a result, the ICESat technical and science teams, have requested that only a small set of selected SLR stations participate during the first few months of tracking while they determine their full requirement. We will keep you informed. Best regards, Mike Pearlman Director ILRS Central Bureau Dr. Michael R. Pearlman Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics 60 Garden St. Cambridge MA 02138 tel.
