Subject: [SLR-Mail] No. 1328: Request for Interest regarding ALOS satellite From: Takashi UCHIMURA (JAXA) ******************************************************************************** SLR Electronic Mail 2005-05-11 17:22:00 UTC Message No. 1328 ******************************************************************************** Author: Takashi UCHIMURA (JAXA) Subject: Request for Interest regarding ALOS satellite Dear ILRS station colleagues, Thank you very much for your excellent support for JAXA SLR satellite. As you already know, JAXA is going to launch an earth observation satellite= ”ALOS” in September this year. Mission Request Form was submitted to ILRS in 2003 and there have been dis= cussion in a mission WG and Governing Board in ILRS. The recent GB held in Vienna result that a procedure regarding restricted laser= tracking has been almost finalized and are now in final adjustment in JAXA. Here is a request for interest from station who will be capable of restri= cted laser tracking and who has intension to cooperate with this mission. Then we would approach station to discuss about detailed procedure under ad= vice of ILRS central Bureau. ALOS has an optical sensor and a synthetic aperture radar(SAR) and its mai= n missions are as follows: (1) Provide maps for Japan and other countries including those in the Asian= -Pacific region (Cartography) (2) Perform regional observation for ”sustainable development”, harmonizati= on of Earth environment and development (Regional Observation), (3) Conduct disaster monitoring around the world (Disaster Monitoring), (4) Survey natural resources (Resources Surveying), (5) Develop technology necessary for future Earth observing satellite (Tech= nology Development) The orbit determination accuracy required for ALOS (3 sigma) is within 1 me= ter at any point on the orbit. To meet this requirements, ALOS has a redundant GPS receiver and a Laser retroreflector array. SLR wil= l be used for GPS calibration and the modification of earth gravity model. The orbit determination accuracy using SLR is within 20 cm. JAXA would like= to have support from ILRS stations to achieve this accuracy. It should be noted that there will be some restrictions in this SLR operati= on because ALOS carries a few optical sensors. JAXA would like to seek stations who are interested in this SLR tracking op= eration for ALOS. A tracking station is required to be able to: 1) automatically start/stop laser radiation according to JAXA-issued IRV an= d Pass Segment List, 2) automatically stop laser radiation according to the GO/No go key that JA= XA publish by FTP, and 3) generate QNLP and send it to JAXA at one second interval.* * This is an alternative of transmission of Fullrate data. And we will be r= eady to discuss your station how to qualify JAXA procedure during qualification test. If you will meet the above requirements and could support JAXA in SLR track= ing for ALOS, please register at the Pre-registration page. http://god.tksc.jaxa.jp/regi_form.html After your pre-registration, JAXA will set necessary network configurations= and contact you to provide the detailed operation procedure and to arrange the schedule. The following is a rough schedule: - Pre-registration (@our web site) - Setup of network configuration and data interface test - Qualification Test Campaign (Tracking Ajisai with draft SIC code and Co= spar ID) - Selection of stations based on the test campaign result =A1=CAby JAXA I= n July=A1=CB including letter issues. - Dry run (Tracking ALOS with no Laser fire) - Actual tracking Thanks a lot for your help, Takashi ,:;+´ -o- *;´ / #o# / Takashi UCHIMURA / / Tel +81 298 68 2624 Fax +81 298 68 2990 +--( )---+ uchimura.takashi@jaxa.jp +--+ __ | | | | | | // GUTS-SLR&GPS http://god.tksc.jaxa.jp/ ------------------------------------------------------------- Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency Consolidated Space tracking and data acquisition department Precise orbit measurement group URL : http://track.sfo.jaxa.jp/dyna/index.html ------------------------------------------------------------- ---1149172827-1596159384-1115824921=:22999-- From: slrmail@dgfi.badw.de ********************************************************************************
