Subject: [SLR-Mail] No. 1377: Grasse Slr/Llr operations for next months... From: Francis Pierron > ******************************************************************************** SLR Electronic Mail 2005-09-16 23:40:00 UTC Message No. 1377 ******************************************************************************** Author: Francis Pierron Subject: Grasse Slr/Llr operations for next months... Dear Ilrs colleagues, Please find there detailed explanation in Grasse Slr/Llr activity for the months to come: -1- the SLR fixed station(7835) was stopped definitively in jun 2005 after a very fruitful 30 years operational phase ; thanks a lot to all of you, which contributed so efficiently to the operations and scientific programs supporting it.. -2- In the months to come, a new laboratory will be build in this place to receive mobile slr system (FTLRS)for upgrade, development and maintenance between fields missions. This laboratory , with a very original design will offer the double facility, both to achieve new developments on FTLRS system in convenient and clean environment, and to give us the opportunity to involve this system in global ILRS tracking in complement of the nearby 1,5 meter telescope MEO station. -3- Current LLR station renamed MEO (for Metrology and Optics) is being completely relooked (higher velocity and precision for the telescope) in view of : -observing Earth satellites from 800 km to 36000 km (two-way), -observing Moon reflectors (two-way, with higher laser energy), -achieving R&D studies and new experiments (Time transfer, transponder,..) -4- Consequently to these very significant developments, Slr/Llr operations at Grasse observatory will be adjourned for an estimated period of 12/18 months. In the meantime, our mobile Ftlrs system, actually operating in Corsica will remain available for fields operations and an ”Announcement of opportunity” for scientific projects including use of this system will be issued in a few days through ILRS and Herstmonceux Workshop. At the end of this phase, the involvement of these two very different systems (0,13 and 1,5 meter telescopes) at 20 meter far from each other should join again Ilrs tracking network for operations with new capabilities, both in Grasse observatory and outside for fields campaigns. Thanks for your cooperation and best regards Francis Pierron -- *--*--*--*--*--*--*--*--*--*--*--*--*--*--*--*--*--*--*--*--*--*--* + Francis Pierron Tel : (33) [0]4 93 40 54 20 + + GEMINI fax : (33) [0]4 93 09 26 14 + + email : francis.pierron@obs-azur.fr + + + + Grasse Laser ranging operations + + Ultra mobile and permanent stations + + + + Observatoire de la Cote d´Azur + + Avenue Nicolas Copernic 06130 Grasse - France + +-----------------------------------------------------------------+ From: Francis Pierron ********************************************************************************
