I collected the information and prepared a dedicated Web page. I intend to update the page frequently with information as it comes in. The page is available at the URL http://ivscc.gsfc.nasa.gov/stations/quake_tigo.html (Please send me a note if you have updates that I can include.) Current situation: Information on TIGO staff. Information on the well-being of the TIGO staff is only trickling in. The German members of the TIGO crew made short phone calls or sent SMS messages back to Germany. Hence we know that the German part of the staff and their families are okay according to the circumstances. We have no word at this point on our Chilean colleagues. But we hope to get more information in the coming days. We wish all people affected the best of luck; our thoughts are with you. Situation at TIGO station. The German Technical Relief Organization (Technisches Hilfswerk, THW) has arrived in Chile and set up base camp at TIGO. At first glance it appears that TIGO got away relatively unscathed. Still, we need to get confirmation on the status of the equipment from TIGO personnel. In this respect it was good news that the GPS receiver recorded data to about 13 hours beyond the quake event, at which point the UPS was probably drained. Universidad de ConcepciĆ³n. The campus of the Universidad de ConcepciĆ³n, however, seems to be hard hit and is severely damaged through the quake and a subsequent fire. It has to be feared that the campus that many fondly remember as the venue of the 4th IVS General Meeting will have to be rebuilt (at least in parts).
