Subject: [SLR-Mail] No.2001: GGOS Sessions at Fall AGU From: Gross, Richard S (335N) ******************************************************************************** SLR Electronic Mail 2011-07-11 09:00:18 UTC Message No. 2001 ******************************************************************************** Author: Richard Gross Dear Colleagues - As part of the 2011 Fall Meeting of the AGU that will be held in San Francisco, California during 05-09 December 2011 there will be two GGOS sessions: G10: Integrated Methods in Global Geodesy G19: The Science and Technology of the Global Geodetic Observing System The descriptions of the sessions are given below. On behalf of the conveners I would like to draw your attention to these sessions and encourage you to participate in them. We are developing rich sessions that will describe the next generation Global Geodetic Observing Networks, their integrated instrumentation, and integrated modeling needed to address geodetically demanding scientific topics like global sea level change. We hope that you will be able to join us in San Francisco for these exciting sessions. More information about the 2011 Fall Meeting of the AGU can be obtained from its web site at . Please note that the deadline for submitting abstracts is 04 August 2011. Hope to see you in San Francisco! Best regards, Richard .......................................................... G10: Integrated Methods in Global Geodesy In the framework of the contribution of geodesy to the global Earth system, its modeling, understanding and monitoring, this session is devoted to new approaches to model and analyze data issues from Global Geodetic Observing Systems (GGOS). Emphasis on integrated modeling, as well as estimation strategies such as data assimilation or multi-technique data processing, is the main objective of this session. This will also contribute to the efforts of the international geodetic community, mainly coordinated by the GGOS program of the International Association of Geodesy. G19: The Science and Technology of the Global Geodetic Observing System Measurements of the Earth´s changing rotation, shape, and gravity provided by the Global Geodetic Observing System (GGOS) can be used to study a wide variety of Earth system processes including surficial processes involving the atmosphere, oceans, and hydrosphere. As the accuracy, latency, and temporal and spatial resolution of these measurements improve due to ongoing technological improvements of the observing systems contributing to GGOS, greater understanding of these processes will be attained. This session will be a forum for discussing the current status and plans for developing the next generation geodetic observing systems, their integration into GGOS, and their use to study Earth system processes.
