I am the leader of the Astrophotonics research (www.icrar.org/astrophotonics) group within the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research (ICRAR) at UWA. We conduct research on phase-synchronised frequency transfer on optical fibre – for the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) and Next-Generation Very Large Array (ngVLA) radio telescopes – and via free space laser links (see for example our attached PhysRevApplied paper and out latest results in the IFCS2020 abstract). UWA was recently awarded ~A$0.5M in funding from the SmartSat Cooperative Research Centre (https://smartsatcrc.com/), to conduction a 1-year pilot project (with the possibility of a 2-year extension) to explore the optical data communications application of our laser link technology (SmartSat CRC Project 1-01, see attached Summary document). We are looking to hire a postdoctoral researcher or research engineer with the following experience: optical communications, RF communications, free-space optics, photonics, and/or frequency metrology. This is an informal call; however, the position is available immediately. Given the ongoing COVID-19 situation, the successful candidate could commence the position while working remotely; however, we note travel exemptions are available for people with specialist skills not available in WA.
