Subject: 7825 STL3 operations suspended [SEC=OFFICIAL] From: Randall Carman Author: Martine Woolf Dear ILRS colleagues, I would like to advise you Geoscience Australia`s Satellite Laser Ranging (SLR) operations at Mount Stromlo Observatory have been suspended to allow for essential repairs and upgrades to the SLR system and building facilities. These works are critical to restoring performance and ensuring long-term sustainability. Furthermore, the contract for SLR operations has expired and Geoscience Australia is required to approach the market. Geoscience Australia is expediting the procurement process for SLR equipment upgrades and operations and remains dedicated to establishing SLR operations at Stromlo within the next 12 to 18 months. During this period of downtime, the Yarragadee Geodetic Observatory will continue to produce SLR data for Australia. Although the downtime is unfortunate, Geoscience Australia will use this opportunity to build a robust, future-proofed SLR facility that will deliver sustainable operations and reliable data for years to come. Establishing dependable SLR operations at Stromlo supports Geoscience`s strategic goals for integrated management of SLR activities, helping ensure that ILRS receives consistent, reliable, and effective data from Australia. Should you have any questions or would like to discuss our forward strategy and plan, please do not hesitate to reach out. Thank you for your understanding and we will continue to keep the ILRS up to date on our progress.
