Subject: My Departure from the NASA SLR Program

Dear friends and colleagues of the ILRS:
For those of you who may not have heard the news yet, I have recently announced my departure from the NASA SLR/VLBI Program. In the weight of the severe budget reductions felt across the SLR programs at NASA, I made the very difficult decision to leave
the SLR program and begin work with HTSI and NASA in another capacity by supporting the new missions in which NASA Goddard Space Flight Center will play a role. With any luck, I may have the honor in working with many of the SLR mission and science
colleagues that I have enjoyed knowing for my 19 years with the SLR program.
Although I have taken a new position, I am currently working with NASA and HTSI in forming the new look HTSI SLR organization that will continue to support both NASA and the ILRS in the best possible way. This will ensure the continuation of SLR into the
future, while SLR2000 continues to make positive strides toward completion and deployment.
Over my 19 years within the program, I have seen many great advancements in technology, organization, cooperation, community spirit that the SLR community has long been known. The formation of the ILRS and the challenging work that each and every working
group and ILRS member has provided show that there is still a strong future for SLR. While I am no longer directly supporting SLR, I plan on continuing the many wonderful relationships that have been forged over the years with all of you. I plan to
continue as an Associate Member of the ILRS to help in any way that I can to forward the SLR technique and the ILRS service.
I wish you all the very best in your future endeavors and look forward to our paths crossing in the future.
With my most sincere regards to all.
Scott
