We would like to bring to your attention the announcement of a position
vacancy
by BKG published in the ”Süddeutsche Zeitung” from May 7, 2004.

Applications are invited for a
specialist in Satellite Laser Ranging
at the Geodetic Observatory TIGO in Concepción/Chile.

This post is open to suitably qualified women and men.

Assignment:
The successful candidate will lead the operation, the maintenance and the
technical development of the TIGO-SLR system and supervise a group of about
seven operators among those two doctorate students and two postgraduate
students.

Education:
Postdegree in Physics, PhD is of advantage

Experience and knowledge:
The Geodetic Observatory TIGO is seeking a person with specialized knowledge
in the physics of laser, opto-electronic and with practical experiences with
complex systems. The ideal candidate has in addition knowledge in computer
programming and hardware oriented software development with C, C++, Perl,
Linux. Basic knowledge in astronomy and celestial mechanics are of
advantage. A good command of english and spanish language (or a willingness
to learn) are essential. A strong sense of team spirit in an
interdisciplinary
environment are required as well as the ability to work independently.

Starting Date:
as soon as possible

Contract:
The initial contract is for a period ending on December 31, 2007.

Remuneration:
BKG offers a contract according to the german BAT, Verg. Gr. IIa. The
location will be Concepción, Chile. Expatriate bonus according to BAT are
included.
