Subject: Moving to KHz Ranging Session at 2005 Herstmonceux Workshop

For those who will be attending the ILRS Fall 2005 Workshop in Eastbourne,
we would like to ask for your inputs to the session ”Moving to KHz Ranging.”

The proposed topics of discussion from the Workshop Website are:

1) Is kHz ranging the key to 1 mm observations?
2) What is the analyst response to the new kHz SLR data?
3) What are the benefits and disadvantages of using high repetition lasers?
4) What developments have sites undergone to prepare for moving toward kHz
ranging?
5) What software developments are necessary to operate at kHz?
6) What are the experiences of sites in preparing to operate a kHz?
7) What developments have site made in real time track detection?
8) What are the problems that sites will face that they hope to overcome
with track detection?
9) How should data be selected to form a normal point? (1 retro vs mean)?
10) What developments have there been in the SLR2000 project?

Please let us know which topics are important to you and what others should
be added. Also please let us know if you would like to present your ideas
on any of these subjects. The organization of the session is expected to
be rather informal with more discussion than presentation, but there will
be some initial presentation to start each topic.

We would also like the stations that are currently doing, or planning to do
KHz ranging, to give a brief summary and status of their efforts at this
session.

Thank you,
Georg Kirchner
