The hood was successfully closed with the help of McDonald Observatory Physical Plant personnel, using a special purpose extending fork lift. The cause of the failure has not yet been identified in spite of our swapping out the hydraulic pump. The pump manufacturer says that this unit is now obsolete (by a number of years) and that two direction pumps are no longer made. With it being now not possible to open the hood, the MLRS will not be ranging while we analyze the problem and then repair it. We will keep you informed.
