The tasks of the FGI include maintenance of the National reference frames and height systems, and their connection to the global networks, geospatial metrology, and research in geodesy, geoinformatics, remote sensing, positioning and related fields. The institute is situated in Masala, Kirkkonummi and the Metsähovi Research Station in Kylmälä, Kirkkonummi. The FGI is looking for a specialist research scientist for the Metsähovi Research Station. Requirements for the position are a PhD degree and research experience in one of the following fields: geodesy, astronomy (optical or radio astronomy) or geophysics. Observational experience in radio or optical astronomy, Satellite Laser Ranging (SLR) or VLBI, and the quality and extent of publications are taken into account. Tasks include the installation and testing of the new SLR instrument, conducting the observation activities on SLR and geodetic VLBI, responsibility for the other activities at the station (including CGNSS), participation in International campaigns, and scientific research in the field of space geodesy as a part of the research activities of the Department of Geodesy and Geodynamics of the FGI. Based on the new salary system of the FGI, the basic salary will be in categories VII or VIII (2700-3200 €/month) depending on the experience of the applicant, plus a personal part which is at maximum 45% of the basic salary. The personal part is determined based on the results of work. The starting salary is negotiable within certain limits. There will be a six month trial period.
