Subject: Update on the Consolidated laser Ranging Data (CRD) format

Dear Colleagues,

There is progress to report in the CRD format implementation. The latest
version of the CRD format document (v0.27) and the first release of the
CRD sample code are now available on the ILRS web site. MLRS CRD test
data (normal points, sampled engineering, and full rate) is being
uploaded to the CDDIS on a daily basis. Please see
http://ilrs.gsfc.nasa.gov/products_formats_procedures/crd.html for
details. It is hoped to have one or two more stations uploading data in
a couple of months.

The version 0.27 document has quite a few changes, but the format itself
has only a few new or redefined data fields. If testing goes well, this
version will be renamed version 1.00, the production version, within a
few months.

The sample code contains routines to read and write files in the new
format, conversion programs to convert between the CRD and older
formats, CRD file split and merge programs, and a format compliance
checking program. These are all offered ”as is” as a possible starting
point for working with the CRD format. Please let me know if there any
questions or comments on the software.

I would encourage any interested analysts to download CRD test data to
insure that there are no usability issues and that the CRD format data
as implemented at the station(s) matches the quality of the older
formats.

Thank you.

Best regards,
Randy Ricklefs
