Subject: Satellite Priorities for the IGEX 98 Campaign

Dear Colleague:

The IGEX 98 Campaign started on 19 October 1998 and will run through
through 19 January 1999. This is a very important campaign since it
brings together for comparison three of our space geodesy techniques.

The IGEX 98 Committee has identified nine GLONASS satellites (three in
each plane) as SLR targets for tracking support in this campaign:.

Slot Number Plane SLR name COSPAR No. GLONASS Priority

3 1 Glonass 68 9407601
4 1 Glonass 70 9407603
6 1 Glonass 69 9407602

9 2 Glonass 79 9506803
12 2 Glonass 65 9405001
16 2 Glonass 66 9405002 highest

17 3 Glonass 62 9402101
20 3 Glonass 71 9500901 highest
22 3 Glonass 72 9500902

Concern was expressed at the ILRS General Assembly in Deggendorf that
stations with limited resources might have difficulty allocating
tracking time among these GLONASS satellites. If this is an issue at
your SLR station, please note that a higher priority has been placed
on GLONASS 66 and 71 in order to resolve any conflicts.

Do the best you can. This is a good opportunity for SLR to demonstrate
its importance to the global reference system measurement complex.

Contact me if you have any questions.

Good Luck,
