Position of the Head of Geodetic Observatory Wettzell

The Geodetic Observatory Wettzell is operated jointly by the Bundesamt
fuer Kartographie und Geodaesie (BKG) and the Forschungseinrichtung
Satellitengeodaesie (FESG) of Munich Technical University. It makes
significant contributions to the realisation and maintenance of global
reference networks, which include the International Terrestrial
Reference Frame and the International Celestial Reference Frame, to the
determination of Earth Orientation Parameters as well as to the
International Gravity Field Service.

The station´s remit covers primarily the operation of a VLBI
radiotelescope, an SLR system, the ”Transportable Integrated Geodetic
Observatory” (TIGO) at Concepcion/Chile, the Antarctic Station O´Higgins
as well as a multitude of permanent GPS receivers installed in Europe
and worldwide. Besides the further development of the space geodetic
techniques new measuring methods are devised, as e.g. a local rotation
sensor (Ring Laser). Further measuring systems provide local data needed
in addition to the space measuring techniques, which include a
superconducting gravimeter, a meteorological station, a time and
frequency system consisting of a multitude of atomic clocks, which is
involved in the generation of the world time scale UTC by the BIPM, as
well as a seismometer.

BKG is seeking a scientist as head of this Observatory with experience
in the field of space geodetic techniques, realisation of reference
systems and analysis of space geodetic and gravimetric observations.
The position requires a Ph.D. or M.S. in Geodesy or in related
Geophysical, Physical, Mathematical, or Engineering Sciences.
Applications are expected by November 7, 2008.

Details on the requested qualification are available at BKG´s homepage
http://www.bkg.bund.de/ (see ”Stellenangebote” in the navigation bar).
