Subject: 7405 CONL: TIGO is back after earthquake

Dear colleagues,

I am glad to announce that the TIGO SLR-unit is fully operational again.
After the devastating earthquake on February 27, 2010 we had to
re-position the telescope as well as the entire laser container and all
optical components therein. Both units had been replaced by approx. 50
cm wrt. each other. Much larger was the seismic displacement of more
than 3 meters towards Southwest, as inferred from GPS. There are various
GPS solutions ”on the market” (e.g. see the IGS solutions for delta X,
Y, and Z) and I guess the analysis centers will soon have results for
new coordinates based on SLR data. We have been tracking in continuous
mode since April 29, and acquired more than 120 passes since then. There
has been period of experimental operation between April 14 and 15 in
which we measured 53 passes, however a mechanical damage occured and the
telescope has been levelled again between April 15 and 29.

All data measured after the quake are currently being quarantined to
give the Analysis Working Group time to scrutinize the quality before it
is released through the normal channels. As we had to move the telescope
the eccentricity wrt. to the system reference point has changed and was
determined as usual after telescope maintenance. The new values are:

North [m]: -0.1891 +- 0.0010
East [m]: 0.0063 +- 0.0010
Up [m]: 1.4638 +- 0.0007

I have prepared a new site log file indicating the new ecentricity
values (in section 3.04), which should be online soon. The SOD (now
74057904) was increased in all data acquired since April 14.

I would like to thank the entire SLR community for its support and
encouragement in the difficult time after the earthquake. The TIGO-SLR
team is looking forward to see you all on the ILRS workshop in
Concepción, still scheduled on January 17-22, 2011. I hope to be able to
distribute more detailed information on this event in a first circular
message soon.

Best regards,

Bernie

From: Bernd Sierk
