Subject: UPDATE: CDDIS accessibility during U.S. Government furlough

Although it looks like U.S. Federal Government employees may well be =
furloughed starting midnight tonight, it appears that we will be able to =
retain accessibility to the CDDIS incoming and outgoing servers through =
the shutdown. Therefore, users should be able to continue to access the =
archive through anonymous ftp and data/product suppliers should also be =
able to continue to push files to CDDIS for archive. This is the =
information I have been given; we hope that there are no complications =
at the NASA GSFC firewall that will prevent this access but for now, it =
looks good for CDDIS operations. However, CDDIS operations will continue =
in a totally automated fashion; the CDDIS staff will not be working, nor =
will we be accessible through email until the furlough has ended. I will =
send another message out when all operations are back to normal at =
CDDIS.

Regards,
Carey.

Federal Government may come to a critical point on April 8, causing a =
potential furlough that will shut down non-essential U.S. Government =
services. CDDIS is funded and operated by NASA and will be affected by =
this action. Not only will CDDIS staff not be permitted to work, it =
appears that NASA will not permit access to public web/ftp servers =
during this furlough. Thus CDDIS will not be accessible to users and =
will not be able to receive incoming files for our archive. We regret =
the GREAT inconvenience this outage will cause, which could last a week =
or more.
