As part of the 2015 Fall Meeting of the AGU that will be held in San Francisco, California during 14-18 December 2015 there will be a session on ”The Global Geodetic Observing System: Improving Geodetic Observations for Sea Level Change, Variability and Forecasting”. The description of the session is given below.

On behalf if the conveners I would like to draw your attention to this session and encourage you to participate in it. We are developing a rich session that will showcase the improvements to the geodetic observing systems that are being planned or that are currently underway and the importance of these improvements for sea level change, variability, and forecasting. I hope that you will be able to join us in San Francisco for this exciting session. More information about the 2015 Fall Meeting can be obtained from its web site at .

Please note that abstracts must be submitted to AGU by August 5, 2015.

Session ID# 8438: The Global Geodetic Observing System: Improving Geodetic Observations for Sea Level Change, Variability and Forecasting

The IAG´s Global Geodetic Observing System (GGOS) provides the fundamental ground- and space-based geodetic observations needed to improve our understanding of the Earth´s variable shape, rotation, and gravity. GGOS is forming a comprehensive geodetic observing instrument that unifies and integrates the hitherto separate pillars of geodesy (shape, rotation, and gravity) into one consistent observing system. Such an integrated observing system has many applications, including improving our understanding of sea level change, variability, and forecasting. This session is a forum for discussing past, present, and future geodetic observing networks, the integration of the technique-specific observing networks into an integrated geodetic observing system, and the use of the system for improving our understanding of the dynamic Earth. Presentations are particularly sought on the use of geodetic observations to improve our understanding of sea level change, variability, and forecasting.
