Content: | Dear Colleagues - As part of the EGU General Assembly that will be held in Vienna, Austria during 17-22 April 2016 there will be a session on ”The Global Geodetic Observing System: Monitoring Geohazards”. Best regards, Richard ======================================================== G2.1/NH6.8 The Global Geodetic Observing System: Monitoring Geohazards (co-organized) Convener: Richard Gross Co-Conveners: Erricos C. Pavlis, Daniela Thaller, John LaBrecque Within the decade Global Navigation Satellite Systems will undergo more than a fourfold expansion in the number of orbiting satellites coupled with significant increases in the availability of real time GNSS data from globally distributed ground networks. GGOS seeks to advance geohazards monitoring and mitigation through network expansion and advances in the real time GNSS data analysis of the International GNSS Service´s Multi-GNSS real time capabilities (IGSRT and M-GEX). This session seeks to explore the possibilities of current and future advances in these systems upon disaster mitigation and response. We seek informed presentations on the current state of very low latency data streaming for the various GNSS constellations. We also seek reports and comparisons of techniques applied to the rapid assessment and early warning of earthquakes and tsunamis in accord with Resolution #2 of the IUGG 2015 regarding the utility and need for GNSS to focus upon disasters associated with mega-thrust earthquakes. We also welcome presentations related to advanced concepts and applications of real time GNSS data related to the mitigation of other hazards such as volcanic plumes, flood warning, severe storms, etc. Besides focussing on the use of geodetic observing systems for geohazards monitoring, this session is also a forum for discussing past, present, and future geodetic observing networks and the integration of the technique-specific observing networks into an integrated geodetic observing system.
