The ILRS Governing Board has considered and approved the following request
from Dr. Massmann of GFZ in Potsdam for continued tracking of the ERS-1
satellite until December 31, 1999. We request all ILRS stations to continue
tracking the ERS-1 satellite with the same tracking priorities as
previously used during the campaign.

>Dear colleagues,
>
>First of all we want to thank all members of the SLR community for their
>strong participation in the ERS-1 SLR tracking despite all other tracking
>activities. Thanks to your great job it is possible to compute precision
>orbits for the scientific community.
>
>Fortunately the satellite is still in good condition and ESA continues to
>operate the satellite in a Tandem configuration with ERS-2 in order to
>enable SAR data acquisition from both satellites. ESA plans to keep this
>situation till the end of 1999, if the satellite will not fail up to then.
>
>In order to be able to support the scientific analysis by precision orbits,
>we therefore ask you for a continuation of the ERS-1 SLR tracking activities
>till the end of 1999.

>Best regards
