We have recently received permission from Dr. Victor Shargorodsky to track
the three new GLONASS satellites . Our SLR liaison with the IGEX-98
campaign, Werner Gurtner, has recommended that we add these new satellites
to our approved tracking list. The CSTG SLR/LLR Subcommission approved this
tracking previously at our meting in Nice last April pending approval by
the Russian Space Agency so no further action by the current ILRS Governing
Board is required.

Of the original nine GLONASS satellites, GLONASS 65 is unhealthy and should
be dropped from your current tracking list. Numbers 68 and 69 are in the
same orbital plane as the three new satellites and Werner indicates that
these can be dropped if tracking more than nine GLONASS satellites is a
burden for your station. Otherwise you are encouraged to continue the
tracking of 68 and 69 along with the new ones.

The text of Werner Gurtner´s and Victor Shargorodsky´s email messages follow.

Sincerely,

John Degnan
Chairperson, ILRS Governing Board
