Husson, ILRS Central Bureau and NASA SLR Network Subject: Tahiti (Station 7124) Cesium Problems Since early February 1999, the SLR system in Tahiti (Station 7124) has been experiencing cesium problems (excessive drifts, >20 microseconds a day). To minimize the impact on their data quality, the station operators have been performing numerous clock adjustments (sometimes a few an hour) to maintain the station time to within 1-2 microsecond of GPS time. This drift rate has gotten progressively worse despite getting a second replacement cesium. This cesium problem will probably continue at least for one more month until they receive some new timing hardware. So please be warned, that MOBLAS 8 data will be slightly degraded, but should still be scientifically useful. We will keep your informed of any changes in the situation and we regret any inconvenience this may cause.
