Wetzel, NASA SLR Missions and Data Operations Subject: Impending Decay of GFZ-1 Dear Colleagues, I have just spoken with a representative from NORAD regarding the status of the GFZ-1 satellite. The most recent prediction for the deorbiting of GFZ-1 is for June 23, 1999 at 0104z just prior to a tracking opportunity at RGO. As explained by NORAD this type of prediction is not an exact science, therefore GFZ-1 may remain in service a little longer or may be destroyed by the time you read this message. By agreement with NORAD, we will be notified when GFZ-1 has decayed, and therefore make another notification. Best Regards, Scott L.
