Subject: SUNSAT Tracking Campaign

Dear Colleague,

The ILRS Governing Board has approved a 6 month tracking campaign on
SUNSAT. This approval is based on the Mission Support form submitted
to the ILRS in April and presented at the ILRS General Meeting at the
Hague. SUNSAT provides an opportunity for an engineering test of the
new on-board GPS system. No other opportunities for such a test have
been available so far, so this test is quite important. Further
information on the satellite mission can be found on the ILRS web
site.

An informal SLR campaign has been underway since June, while the
project addressed some on-board systems problems. The SUNSAT Project
has now informed us that the GPS receiver is providing proper data,
and they request commencement of the formal campaign.

The formal SUNSAT Campaign will begin on Friday, September 17 and
will continue through April 17, 2000. Periodic assessments will be
made during this time in case adjustments are required. SUNSAT will
occupy fifth priority, just after Topex/Poseidon.

ATSC will continue to provide IRV´s through the regular prediction
channels. Weekly reports on campaign status will also be issued on
email.

Please provide whatever support you can to this campaign.

Good luck,

Mike
