Subject: ADEOS-II launch is postponed on November first, 2001.

Dear Colleagues,

I am writing this letter on behalf of NASDA, Japan.
First of all, an apology for the late notification concerning the ADEOS-II
SLR supporting request and detailed its launch date.

As you know, on 15 November 1999, NASDA launched H-II launch vehicle
No. 8 (H-II 8F) from the Tanegashima Space Center with the Multi-
Functional Transport Satellite (MTSAT) on board.
However, the first-stage engine stopped prematurely, so the launch
vehicle deviated from its planned trajectory. As a result, it was not able
to place the satellite into its desired orbit.

NASDA is currently investigating the causes of the abnormal stoppage,
and this information must be reflected to following launch plan.
***************************
Therefore, ADEOS-II launch is postponed on November first, 2001.
***************************
It has decided by the Space Activities Commission in Japan on May 31st.

The formal SLR support for ADEOS-II will be demanded in the next ILRS
conference.

Your attention is appreciated, and we hope you will follow it with further
support.

Sincerely yours,
Hiroo Kunimori
