Subject: Update Preliminary CHAMP Orbit Predictions

Dear colleagues,

as announced in SLRMail No 0606 the set of preliminary orbit prediction
products has been updated today (July 4, 2000). This new set of CHAMP
orbit prediction products represents the nominal CHAMP orbit.

o The data sets are accessible via anonymous ftp at our ftp-server:

ftp-server name: ftp.gfz-potsdam.de

Directory: pub/champ/chftp1/slr

Files: champ_irvs_000704_0.gfz, champ_drag_000704_0.gfz,
champ_sao_000704_0.gfz, champ_tle_000704_0.gfz

The file naming convention has been fixed as follows:

champ_irvs__.gfz (Tuned InterRangeVectors (IRVs))
champ_drag__.gfz (adjacent drag functions)
champ_sao__.gfz (SAO-elements)
champ_tle__.gfz (Twoline elements)

where: ... ordinary date of dissemination (2-digit year number)
... cycle number indicating c-th update at dissemination
day. Initial files would start with c = 0, first update
c = 1 and so on.

The files will also be accessible at the ILRS data centers (CDDIS, EDC) using
identical file naming conventions.

CDDIS: ftp://cddisa.gsfc.nasa.gov/pub/predicts/2000/champ
EDC: ftp://ftp.dgfi.badw-muenchen.de/pub/laser/predictions/CHAMP_PRED

o The product files contain the following values for CHAMP´s satellite identification
numbers:

COSPAR-No.: 0009901 (temporary, until assignment after launch)
NORAD-TLE : 00099 (temporary, until assignment after launch)
SIC-No. : 8002 (fixed)

Please note, that the preliminary COSPAR-No. used at GFZ is different from the preliminary
COSPAR-No. announced by Mike Pearlman in SLRMail No. 0624 (0099999). We kindly ask to use
the preliminary GFZ-COSPAR-No. 0009901 for ONP data to ease operational procedures in the
initial phase until all satellite identification numbers for CHAMP are assigned.
