Subject: ILRS Site and System Information Log
Werner Gurtner, Networks and Engineering WG

Dear Colleagues,

The Networks and Engineering Working Group under the leadership
of Werner Gurtner has completed the design of the Site and
System Information Log. A strawman of this log was presented
at the last ILRS meeting in Nice, France.

This email is to inform stations that this site log now exists
and it is time for the systems to provide this information
as a new requirement.

This log is primarily intended to be used as a description
of a fixed SLR system at a given site.

By selectively filling out parts of the form only, it can
be used to describe a (mobile) system or a site to be visited
by a mobile laser system.

The form is meant to be supplemented whenever system parameters
or other information maintained by the form have changed.
Thus the form will also serve as a historical collection of
major changes during the lifetime of an SLR system and/or its
site.

The information contained in the LOG will support many different
customers internal and external to the ILRS (e.g. ILRS analysis
centers, SLR engineering, SLR stations, IERS), so it is
imperative to ensure the completeness and accuracy of your
responses.

The blank site log is available from the CDDIS at:

ftp://cddisa.gsfc.nasa.gov/pub/reports/slrlog/slr_blank.log

Also, to assist you in completing the site log we have
a set of instructions and several example logs from
Herstmonceux (7840), Zimmerwald (7810), Mt. Stromlo (7849)
and Greenbelt (7105) at:

http://ilrs.gsfc.nasa.gov/site_log_procedure.html (html)
ftp://cddisa.gsfc.nasa.gov/pub/reports/slrlog/site_log_procedure.txt (text)

ftp://cddisa.gsfc.nasa.gov/pub/reports/slrlog/herl_20000501.log (7840)
ftp://cddisa.gsfc.nasa.gov/pub/reports/slrlog/ziml_20000501.log (7810)
ftp://cddisa.gsfc.nasa.gov/pub/reports/slrlog/strl_20000501.log (7849)
ftp://cddisa.gsfc.nasa.gov/pub/reports/slrlog/godl_20000706.log (7105)

The completed site log should be sent to the ILRS Central
Bureau at cb@ilrs.gsfc.nasa.gov .

The CB will review each log for format and data integrity before it
is posted to the CDDIS.

We understand it will take some time to complete the log based on our
experience and therefore we would like for each station to
complete their site logs by October 1, 2000.

Thanks for your support and cooperation.
