Author: Van Husson, ILRS Central Bureau
Subject: Status of ILRS Site Information Logs

Dear Colleagues,

This message serves as a reminder to the stations that site
information logs are to be completed by 1 October 2000. At
the upcoming laser workshop in Matera, the Central Bureau will
provide a site log status report during the general ILRS meeting.

One requirement of being an ILRS station member is to complete
and maintain your site information logs so please try and
complete your site logs by the deadline.

HISTORY:
The site log was designed by the Networking and Engineering
Working Group under the leadership of Werner Gurtner. The ILRS
site log was modeled from the IGS site log.

The site logs contain general and specific information for each
site that will serve many different customers. This information
in the logs include but is not limited to site identifiers,
site contact information, system eccentricities, approximate
station coordinates, hardware and software configuration
information, SLR/LLR system capabilities, collocated space
geodetic systems, and survey ties.

PROCEDURE/AVAILIBILITY:
The completed site logs are emailed to the Central Bureau. After
receipt, the Central Bureau and the Networks and Engineering Working
Group review each log for data format and data integrity. Once the
site log has passed the format and data integrity checks, the site
log is placed on the CDDIS at:

ftp://cddisa.gsfc.nasa.gov/pub/reports/slrlog/

The log file filenaming convention is contained within the site
log procedures located at:

http://ilrs.gsfc.nasa.gov/site_log_procedure.html

Also, I will like to bring your attention to the Site Identification
Page on the ILRS at:

http://ilrs.gsfc.nasa.gov/sod_domes.html

This page contains all the different site identifiers (pad id,
4 letter codes, location names, SODs, DOMES) used within our
community. The hyperlinks associated with the 4 letter codes
are linked to the corresponding site log. If the 4 letter code
has no hyperlink, then the site log either has not been received
or additional information is being sought from the site.

Once site logs are updated, the latest version is maintained
in the directory mentioned above and the old site log is
moved to the old site directory at:

ftp://cddisa.gsfc.nasa.gov/pub/reports/slrlog/oldlog/

This procedure ensures archival of all versions of any site log.

The Networks and Engineering Working Group will be developing
site log search capabilities to enable finding common information
from all systems (e.g. you will be able to search to determine which
systems are using APD detectors).

STATUS:
Thirteen logs have been received (Zimmerwald, Greenbelt,
Borowiec, Mt. Stromlo, Herstmonceux, Graz, Shanghai,
Potsdam, Tahiti, Hartebeesthoek, Wettzell, Changchun,
McDonald).

Ten of the 13 logs have passed the format and data integrity
checks. Three (Tahiti, Shanghai, and Potsdam) of the 13 site
logs are pending receipt of additional information.
