Subject: GPS and Etalon Support Information

Dear Colleagues,

As a result of discussions held at the combined Eurolas/CSTG conference in
Berne, Switzerland in early December 1995, increased global Satellite Laser
Ranging support for the GPS-35, GPS-36, Etalon-1, and Etalon-2 missions is
being requested. Though the GPS satellites do not have primary geodynamic
missions, constituents of the scientific community have requested increased
emphasis be placed on supporting these satellites to improve the data yield.

The GPS-35 and GPS-36 missions, part of the Global Positioning System
constellation of satellites, are officially known as NAVSTAR 35 Global
Positioning System and NAVSTAR 36 Global Positioning System, respectively.
The Etalon-1 and Etalon-2 missions are part of the Russian Etalon series of
geodynamic satellites.

Stations capable of supporting far earth-orbit missions are requested to
include these satellites in their tracking schedule, as appropriate.
Satellite specific information is provided in the following table:

Satellite GPS-35 GPS-36 Etalon-1 Etalon-2
SUPIDEN G3535MS G3636MS G0525MS G4146MS
COSPAR 9305401 9401601 8900103 8903903
TIV File G35*.TIV G36*.TIV ET1*.TIV ET2*.TIV
Altitude 20,135 km 20,023 km 19,117 km 19,115 km
Inclination 54.8 degrees 54.9 degrees 64.9 degrees 65.5 degrees

Improved acquisition data for these satellites is available from the CDDIS
and the EDC on a weekly basis. Please direct all questions and/or comments
regarding tracking support for these missions to this office or to the
applicable agency.

Best regards,
Dan Nugent
