Subject: Attention SLR Stations - LRE Campaign

Dear Colleagues,

The launch of the new satellite, the Laser Ranging Experiment (LRE)
Payload is scheduled for August 25, 2001 between 04:00-09:00 UTC.
The ILRS approved one-month tracking campaign will start immediately
after launch. NASDA needs the normal point data or the optical bias
data (if no SLR data is acquired) as soon as possible to refresh its
predictions. Full rate data will be collected after the fact from
those stations that can provide it.

A detailed description of the LRE satellite and mission is available
at the NASDA web site: http://god.tksc.nasda.go.jp/lr/lre.html
Key mission parameters are given below.

Prior to launch, preliminary orbit predictions will be made available
by NASDA. These predictions will be distributed through the
Prediction Exploder, the NASA Crustal Dynamics Data Center (CDDIS),
and the European Data Center (EDC) for global access.

Following launch, NASDA will update orbit predictions as new data are
received from the SLR stations, including normal point data and/or
optical tracking information.

Use the template that was provided in SLR Electronic Mail Message
number 0793 ”ILRS Readiness Test for H2A LRE” from Mike Pearlman on
Friday, August 3, 01:02:10 CEST 2001 to notify NASDA and the ILRS of
tracking success, especially if acquisition is only by optical
tracking .

NASDA has requested the full-rate data be supplied if it is
available. If you are currently providing full-rate data to either
the EDC or CDDIS, submit your full-rate data in the normal manner and
NASDA will retrieve it from the data centers. If you produce full
rate data but do not presently submit it, please mail your full-rate
data directly to NASDA at the following address:

lre_fr@guts.tksc.nasda.go.jp

Subject line: [satellite name] fullrate [station name]

e.g. LRE fullrate TATEYAMA

NASDA will accept any data volume up to 1 Mbyte for each e-mail
transaction. They prefer having the data embedded within the main
text of the message. The CRL LRE Science Coordinator will contact
those stations that do not submit full-rate data to seek some means
of transfer.

Please give this mission your full support.

If you have any questions, please contact us at the ILRS Central
Bureau.

Best regards,

Mike Pearlman
Director,
ILRS Central Bureau
