Subject: CODE SLR-GPS QL-Report: Eclipsing Satellites

Dear colleagues,

starting with the SLR-GPS Quicklook report that will be issued today eclipling
satellites will be indicated with a flag ´E´ in the column following the PRN
number. The flag appears if the SLR observations were acquired with the
satellite in the Earth´s shadow or within 30 minutes after entering back into
sunlight.

Due to attitude motion of the GPS satellites in the shadow and after leaving of
the shadow SLR residuals may become unusually large. The E-flag gives an
indication whether the computed residuals may be thrusted or not.

Appart from a flag ´E´ a flag ´X´ may occur indicating that the shadow
detection algorithm failed and for the flagged satellite no check was possible.
This flag should, of course, never occur...

We hope that the new information included into the QL-Reports helps the SLR
community to better interprete outliers in the residuals and to monitor the
high quality of the acquired observations.

With best regards
